Registration Process for GST

Step 1 : Visit the GST Portal

Go to the official GST portal.

Step 2 : Step 2: Generate a Temporary Reference Number (TRN)

  1. Click on “Services” > “Registration” > “New Registration.”
  2. Fill the following details:
    • Select Taxpayer from the drop-down menu.
    • Enter the State and District.
    • Enter your Business Name and PAN.
    • Enter the Email ID and Mobile Number. You will receive an OTP on both.
    After submitting, you will receive a Temporary Reference Number (TRN) on your email and phone.

Step 3 : Login with TRN

  • Go back to the GST portal and click on “New Registration” again.
  • Fill the following details:
  • Enter the TRN and the CAPTCHA code, then submit.
  • You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number and email.
  • Enter the OTP and click Proceed.

Step 4 : Fill in Business Information

You will be directed to a new page where you need to fill in details such as:

  • Business Name as per the PAN
  • Trade Name (if different from Business Name)
  • Constitution of Business (Proprietorship, Partnership, etc.)
  • District and State
  • Date of Commencement of Business
  • Reason for obtaining GST Registration

Step 5 : Provide Business Address

You will be directed to a new page where you need to fill in details such as:

  • Enter the principal place of business address, including the building name, street, district, PIN, etc.
  • Upload the required address proof (such as rent agreement, NOC, electricity bill).
  • Provide the contact details (email and mobile) and Nature of Possession (owned, leased, etc.).

Step 6 : Provide Details of Partners/Directors

Enter the personal information of the Promoters/Partners/Directors, including:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Mobile Number
  • Email ID
  • Aadhaar and PAN numbers
  • Upload photographs and relevant identity documents.

Step 7 : Authorized Signatory

  • Appoint an authorized signatory who will be responsible for filing returns and other activities under GST.
  • Upload the digital signature (DSC) or e-signature of the authorized signatory.

Step 8 : Add Principal Place of Business

  • Enter the details of the principal place of business, including the nature of premises and address.
  • Upload the necessary documents for proof (rent agreement, electricity bill, etc.).

Step 9 : Bank Details

  1. Enter the bank account details:
    • Bank name
    • Account number
    • IFSC code
  2. Upload a copy of the bank statement or a cancelled cheque.

Step 10 : Verify and Submit the Application

  1. Verify the form by using one of the following methods:
    • Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)
    • E-Signature (using Aadhaar OTP)
    • Electronic Verification Code (EVC) sent to your registered mobile.
  2. After submission, an Application Reference Number (ARN) will be sent to your registered email and mobile.

Step 11 : GST Officer Verification

  • After submitting the application, a GST officer will verify the information and may ask for clarification or additional documents if needed.
  • If the officer approves, the GSTIN (Goods and Services Tax Identification Number) will be issued.
